Frequently Asked Questions
First time to therapy?
If this is your first time considering therapy, you may have some questions about what to expect and how it may all work for you. Feel free to contact me initially if you need more information.
What is the initial consultation?
I offer a free 20 minute initial consultation for all prospective clients. I believe it is hugely important to find the right counsellor for you, without the added anxiety of cost.
The consultation is an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about how I might work with you. You may wish to discuss what your expectations are of therapy or any particular outcomes you are hoping for. This can start to be explored in order to help you gain a greater understanding of whether I might be the right fit for you as your counsellor.
There is no obligation to continue therapy with me after the consultation. I always suggest you take some time to reflect after before making a decision. You are about to make a potential investment in YOU. My door is always open.
What happens after the initial assessment?
If you feel you would like to start working with me as your counsellor, we would agree a contract for a specified number of sessions (or open-ended depending on your preference) at a frequency to suit you (weekly, fortnightly or monthly).
The first session would include a formal client assessment to determine your needs and any special requirements you may need during therapy. We would then talk through the contract to ensure you are happy with the arrangement before we being our therapeutic work.
How many sessions do I need?
That depends entirely on you. After your assessment I may suggest a certain amount of sessions I feel would be beneficial, however this is always open for review and you have full control over when you wish to terminate or extend a contract.
Some clients wish to see me for short-term therapy whilst others have been clients of mine for years. It's what works best for you that matters.
